Scrabble for Cheaters Returns!

The time of sneaky, low-down, no-good cheaters is upon us once again! In just a few short weeks, wordophiles will gather together to make up words and steal letters in the quest for the coveted Cheaters' Cup. But all of you aspiring wordsmiths better be careful, because the reigning cheaters from last year are returning, cup in hand, to fend off the hordes of aspiring tricksters.

Got a chip on your shoulder from a missed win last year? Or are you completely new, with something to prove? It doesn't matter, there are only room for 32 teams of two, so if you want your shot at glory, you'd better head over to the Scrabble for Cheaters site and sign up while there's room. And even if you can't donate your time to further the cause of underhandedness, you can still throw your support behind one of the teams. Every dollar has the potential to provide your favored team with just the cheat they need to win.

Voice of Witness Reading & Discussion

On Wednesday, December 17th at 6:30pm, 826NYC will host a McSweeney's Voice of Witness reading and discussion in honor of "Out of Exile", an incredible new book about Sudan. With an introduction and select interviews by Valentino Achak Deng and Dave Eggers, this collection of oral histories gives voice to victims of abduction, displacement, and slavery in Sudan. Featuring editor Craig Walzer and narrators from the book (via satellite).

Certificates of Superheroism

To help celebrate (and initiate) the launch of our new Superhero Supplies website, we are offering our first and--currently--only product: a limited edition, hand-printed Certificate of Superheroism. Each certificate is printed on beautiful Hahnemühle Copperplate coldpress artisinal paper using a Vandercook proof press. They are approximately 15" x 13", making them suitable for framing and showing off your legitimate superhero creds to all your friends.

Oh, and they're limited edition, so once these are sold out, that's all there is.

STEW Book Release!

Our debut Brooklyn Issue is a collection of stories written by juniors at the Secondary School for Journalism. These articles, based on interviews and independent reporting, were written in the 2007-2008 academic school year, and examine change in the city in which we live. Pac-Man Looks Like a Cookie: An 826NYC Bake Sale

Please join us for an old-fashioned bake sale: Pac-Man Looks Like a Cookie! All proceeds from the sale will go directly toward purchasing new chairs for the writing center. New chairs will support projects like the creation of "The Encyclopedia of Imaginary Disorders and Oddities," the writing of short stories about an alien named Paul, the editing of essays about wrestling, the figuring-out of lyrics for songs to be sung by a jellyfish band, and the crafting of collages that tell tales of celebrities arriving at startling moments of truth.
